Ice Cream

One of the exciting areas of recent note is Ice Cream.  I've seen an explosion of new places providing creative and interesting flavors.  Last night for instance, I had two great flavors from Tara's Organic Ice Cream in Berkeley.  The first flavor I had was Allspice.  It was an excellent ice cream with great complexity of flavor but something you can eat a full scoop without a problem.  The other one was N.M. Green Chile ice cream.  I know what you're thinking...  This is about food adventure, right?  It's definitely not your typical vanilla...  It's a great balance of spice, sweet and cream.  For this one, I don't know if I'd go for a whole scoop, but the flavor is great.  I've had other spicy ice creams before and this was a good one too.  If you live in the San Francisco bay area and want to have an ice cream adventure, try one of these places:

Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream

If you really want to open your eyes to what's possible with ice cream, try Humphry Slocombe.  This place is really excellent. Pushing the limits and making flavors that are mind bending and wonderful to eat.  Examples:  Salted Licorice, Hibiscus Beet Sorbet, and Secret Breakfast (Bourbon and Cornflake).  That last flavor, Secret Breakfast is one of the best ice creams I've ever had.  Go get some!
